Galvin stars in NUIG win

JOHN MAUGHAN’S NUI Galway side claimed their second inter-county scalp of the week when an Ian Galvin goal proved decisive at Tuam Stadium.

The students opened up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 20 minutes, with Mayo’s Neil Douglas hitting three and Shane Moran from Leitrim also getting a brace. But Galway finished the half strongly, with Conor Rabbitte and Hehir points reducing it to 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval.

However, Galvin’s score of the game after 43 minutes, when he blasted home a goal into the right corner, killed the game.
