Rogers rescues Roscommon

JOHN ROGERS stroked over an injury-time free to ensure that Des Newton’s competitive managerial debut in charge of his native Roscommon didn’t end in defeat at Ballyforan yesterday.

Despite being four points behind at the break, GMIT dominated the second-half of this FBD Connacht League encounter and Johnny Ryan’s 53rd minute penalty put the Galway students in the driving seat.

But late points from substitute Ger Heneghan and Rogers saved Roscommon’s blushes in front of their own fans.
