THE cruciate curse has struck Cork footballers once again with promising forward David Goold ruled out for the 2012 season because of a knee injury picked up in training.

It’s believed the Macroom man has suffered the same injury that has sidelined Colm O’Neill and Ciaran Sheehan for the last 12 months.

Goold appeared as a substitute for Cork in their Division 1 final win over Dublin in April as well as their Munster semi-final against Waterford last year.

Meanwhile Kevin Cassidy has not hinted his inter-county career could yet be revived.

Reports claiming the ousted Donegal All Star had refused to rule out a return to county colours on TG4’s Seó Spóirt on New Year’s Day have been dismissed by the programme presenter Dara Ó Cinnéide.

“That’s not the impression I got from him,” said the former Kerry All-Ireland captain and Irish Examiner columnist.
