Hession slams training ban

GALWAY’S 2010 European 200m finalist Paul Hession has slammed the GAA’s training ban, claiming it can contribute to burnout rather than preventing it.

A former club hurler, the Athenry man can’t understand the prohibition of inter-county collective training in November and December as it prevents players from doing ‘prehab’ work to help avoid injuries.

“I find the GAA training ban incredible. Surely a proper year-round training programme prevents burnout?” said Hession.

Central Council will be putting forward a motion to Congress next April looking to relax the rule on a phased basis.
