Louth’s seven minute play-off final

LOUTH GAA chiefs have ruled that the remaining seven minutes of an unfinished IFC relegation play-off in September be played.

Louth’s seven minute play-off final

Naomh Fionnbarra were leading Oliver Plunketts 1-9 to 0-8 when the floodlights at the Clogherhead venue failed. When light was restored and the referee tried to finish the tie, it was discovered many Oliver Plunketts players had left the ground.

Louth’s Competitions Control Committee subsequently awarded the match to Naomh Fionnbarra and handed down six-month suspensions to 14 Oliver Plunketts players. One player who had been sent off escaped a ban.

The hearings committee lifted the suspensions but only gave the Drogheda side seven minutes to stave off the drop down to junior ranks.

It has been suggested the play-off could be completed during the interval of Sunday’s Leinster Club JFC final at Drogheda.

However, it is expected that Oliver Plunketts, who are unsure as to whether they would be allowed to field 14 or 15 players, are expected to appeal the decision to the Leinster Council.
