Leading 0-3 to 0-1 after the first quarter, Carnacon bolstered their lead with a fine Aoife Brennan goal. And despite missing a penalty, which Cora Staunton sent wide before half-time, they still led 1-7 to 0-2.

Staunton and Ciara McDermott exchanged points upon the resumption before Staunton struck for Carnacon’s second goal for a 2-8 to 0-3 lead. After that, Na Fianna held the bulk of possession and were given some hope in the 43rd minute when Orlath Egan nipped in to touch the ball home.
