Kanturk set for final flourish

TONIGHT’S winners will have little time for celebrations as they will face a trip to Waterville less than 48 hours later for a Munster JFC quarter-final battle with Dromid Pearses.

Kanturk set for final flourish

Yet there will be no thoughts of provincial journeys here, with Kanturk chasing a first ever title at this grade and Mitchelstown aiming to bridge a 50-year gap since their last triumph.

Mitchelstown enjoyed good fortune with their semi-final win courtesy of a last gasp-goal by David Dineen. UCC county senior winner Shane Beston spearheads their attack with Laurence O’Flynn at midfield another key operator. However centre-back Stephen Fox is out with injury and is a major loss.

Kanturk also had the minimum to spare in their semi-final success against Bandon and will hope Aidan Walsh has recovered from his exertions with the Irish International Rules squad, as midfielder Mark Sheehy is suspended.

Their team features plenty experience elsewhere with John and Lorcan McLoughlin both having won All-Ireland U21FC medals with Cork in 2009, while Anthony Nash and Donagh Duane are dangerous attackers.

Verdict: Kanturk
