Coachford edge out Canovee in thriller
COACHFORD are the Allianz Sciath na Scol DF3 football champions following this thrilling goals-aplenty final at Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday. But, as Canovee found out, sport can be so cruel, they were defeated at the death by a Luke Casey point.
Canovee had a brilliant start with goals from Jack Kelleher and John McMahon. However, Coachford hit back with a goal from Alex O’Donovan. Aaron Doherty then found the net for Coachford (despite an initial save from Noel Browne) immediately after the restart and the remaining 10 minutes turned into a right tussle.
Kelleher was in splendid form as Canovee edged ahead, but they were pegged back when Casey netted midway through the half. With a point separating the teams Canovee nosed in front again with a Kelleher point and then a free from the same player was nudged home by McMahon.
The clock was ticking down when a David Thompson goal put Coachford back in the lead. But, dramatically, Sean Browne levelled the game. However, Caseyposted the winning score.

A SUPERB team performance, led by top scorer Rachel Fogarty, ensured the DGF5 title went to Killeagh. The sides went in at the break 1-2 apiece and they then turned in a powerful second-half against gallant Glenville. Fogarty bagged all but one point of their scores, with Susan Cotter the goal-getter for Glenville in the opening half.
Ciara Sheehan (one of a two set of twins on the Glenville team with her sister Maeve, and the Cotter twins Joanne and Susan) raised both their white flags.
Killeagh drove on in the second period. Fogarty and Claire Fitzgerald knocked over points before Fogarty finished off the contest when her free dipped under the crossbar despite the close attention of Rachel Barclay.

SCOIL Bhríde, Midleton are GF2 winners following a lively encounter, but the result does not do justice to the Ballincollig girls. Despite conceding an early goal from Gráinne Twomey they strove to get back into the game, but had to settle for a 1-3 to 0-0 interval scoreline.
Charlie Moore was prominent for Midleton and when Roisín O’Callaghan and Deirdre Corcoran added points in the second period, Scoil Mhuire had a mountain to climb. But they were rewarded when Ella Ní Chárthaigh rattled the net. Claudia Kearney sealed the Midleton win with a fine individual goal.
