Cooper remains in frame for captaincy

COLM COOPER remains in the frame to captain the Kerry senior footballers next season but Dr Crokes officials insist they will wait until December before deciding who to nominate for the position following yesterday’s county final triumph.

The Killarney club once again have the entitlement of selecting who will lead Jack O’Connor’s county squad for the 2012 campaign but Cooper is adamant he has not yet discussed the issue.

“I haven’t really thought about it to be honest,” he said.

“There are five guys involved with Kerry at the moment and the club have not discussed it or had any conversation with us yet. I enjoyed my year as captain and it was a wonderful achievement to captain Kerry to an All-Ireland final. There is plenty time anyway for that decision to be made so we will wait and see.

Club chairman Vince Casey added: “We must talk to the lads who will be involved because we could have five on the panel.

“We need to speak to Colm and see what his feelings are, Eoin (Brosnan) is probably going to play on as well. We will take our time. We don’t have to make a decision until December.”
