Three Bennett brothers the toast of Walsh Park
The winning team included three brothers, Kieran (17), Stephen (16) and Shane (14) Bennett from Ballysaggart and they became the first three brothers to feature on a county minor winning team.
Their father Pat is a former county senior hurler and member of Davy Fitzgerald’s Waterford senior hurling management team for the past two seasons. His sons are highly regarded, with Stephen scoring 3-3 in the Munster MHC defeat of Limerick.
In last Sunday’s county final Stephen again emerged as the star of the show and ended up as the game’s top scorer with an impressive personal tally of 1-9. His dad spoke of his delight for the entire Bennett family, including his elderly mother Joan, at having the three boys featuring in such an historic day.
“It was made all the more special for us after the death of my own dad [John] just a few weeks ago,” said Pat.
“He would be been overcome with pride and delight had he been around to share last Sunday with his three grandsons.”
