HORESWOOD upset the formbook by defeating champions Castletown in yesterday’s thrilling Wexford SFC final at Wexford Park.

Despite playing into a first half wind, Horeswood looked the sharper side, particularly at midfield where Thomas Howlin and Paddy Murphy were dominant. Behind them the half-back line of Eddie Shiely, Leigh O’Brien and Barry Hearn were outstanding in negating the Castletown attack.

After Banville and Brendan Halpin exchanged points, Horeswood had their opening goal from Shiely after 12 minutes (1-2 to 0-2). The sides traded two points apiece as Horeswood led 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval, but it took a superb 25th minute save from keeper Shane O’Hanlon to deny Anthony Masterson a goal.
