Former ref McGrath backs Ulster officials

A FORMER top-flight inter-county referee has sprung to the defence of Ulster officiating standards this year.

Mick McGrath, Donegal’s representative on the Ulster Council, believes there has been an over-reaction to some refereeing mistakes and insists that allowances must always be made for human error.

McGrath, who took charge of many high-profile matches, is confident that a new breed of referees is currently emerging who will maintain the high standards set by the more experienced men in the middle.
