O’Sullivan goal proves decisive for Douglas

DOUGLAS secured their second senior camogie title in three years with victory over Milford at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday afternoon.

The city side withstood early pressure and overturned a three point deficit to lead at half-time (0-6 to 0-5).

Cork starlet Katrina Mackey and Rachel O’Sullivan combined for the only goal of the game after half-time and further points from Mackey (2) stretched the lead to six points by the 40th minute.

Marie Watson’s introduction spurred Milford into action as they cut the deficit to the minimum in a devastating spell after the break.

With six minutes remaining Watson burst through but her superb goalbound effort was cleared off the line by the quick reaction of corner-back Emma Jordan.

Marie O’Neill pointed twice from placed balls to ensure a nerve-racking finish but a resolute Douglas defence, with Theresa Maher outstanding, held out for victory.

In the curtain-raiser Ballinhassig earned their senior status with victory over Glen Rovers (0-8 to 0-7).

Despite leading from the first whistle, the Carrigdhoun side had to withstand a late Glen rally to secure the title.
