Glory for Gleanealy

GLENEALY had to withstand a late goal rush by Carnew to secure their 12th SHC title at Aughrim yesterday.

With less than 13 minutes left, the defending champs appeared to be coasting to another comfortable win, leading 3-7 to 0-6 at that stage.

Operating at full-forward, Enan Glynn had drilled home a goal in each half and set up the third goal for Eoin Dunne to stretch the lead from 1-6 to 0-4 at the break to ten points with just seven minutes left.

Carnew had not scored from play up to that stage, with their six points scored by Don Hyland. But Carnew came with a storming rally, rushing in a brace of goals by Gary Doran and a third by Nick Skelton just before full time.

But it was too little, too late as Glenealy’s earlier dominance prove decisive.
