REFEREES' chief Mick Curley believes inter-county match officials had a reasonably good year — despite receiving what he regards as excessive criticism on occasions.

National referees committee (NRC) chairman Curley also complimented the display of Joe McQuillan in last Sunday’s All-Ireland final.

However, the Galway native acknowledged there were issues surrounding the square ball during the 2011 championship.
