Borrisoleigh turn on power to blow Swans out of water

FAVOURITES Borrisoleigh powered their way past Carrick Swans at Semple Stadium last evening, their five-point winning margin giving them their place in the Tipperary Senior Hurling quarter-final against Mullinahone.

Borrisoleigh were the better side in a poor first half. With Doc O’Connor accurate from frees and Brendan Maher showing well at midfield, they led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break. Danny O’Hanlon scored all the Swans’ points from frees.

Borris stayed in control in the second half and were seven points clear, 0-15 to 0-8, when Swans rallied briefly.

Firstly, Shane Hogan missed a good goal chance in the 52nd minute and, a minute later, Danny O’Hanlon blasted a 30-yard free to the net to cut the lead to four points.

Borris, however, kept their cool and ran out easy winners.

For Borrisoleigh, Maher, Mark Bourke, O’Connor, Sean McCormack and Paddy Stapleton were to the fore. Swans’ best were Danny O’Hanlon, Alan O’Sullivan, Stephen Hahessy and John Walsh.

Scorers for Borrisoleigh: B Maher and D O’Connor 0-6 each, M Bourke 0-4, D McCormack 0-1.

Scorers for Swans: D O’Hanlon 1-6; K Reade, P Diffley, S Hahessy 0-1 each.
