Star of the show for the Saints was their roving attacker Pa Roche. The left full forward bagged a personal tally of 1-4 as he tormented the Kanturk defence throughout the contest.
Roche’s contribution may have over shadowed the part played by his teammates at times, but without the sublime free taking of Kevin Dineen and the sterling defensive play of Ronan Clancy and Padraig Clancy this win would not have been possible.
Kanturk, to their credit, put up a valiant effort for the 60 minutes but never seemed to be able to reel in their front running opponents.
Cork star Lorcan McLoughlin was the danger man for the boys in green and white as he rattled off five frees and a 65 to keep his side in the contest for the duration. He was ably assisted by Aidan Walsh and John Healy, the former slotting over two sublime sidelines and the latter hitting a brace of impressive second-half points.
Kanturk opened the brighter, but found themselves on level terms on the quarter hour thanks to Roche’s poacher’s instincts.
St Catherine’s took control after that and led by 1-7 to 0-6 at the turn.
The second-half proved to be a very even contest with Catherine’s just edging it again as they ran out worthy winners at the final whistle.
