Mayo sweat over stars

MAYO manager James Horan anxiously awaits a report from his medical team tonight as they assess all county players involved in the county club championship at the weekend.

Mayo sweat over stars

Peadar Gardiner (hamstring), David Clarke (ankle), Aidan O’Shea (hip) and Mark Ronaldson (suspected concussion) are believed to be the main injury worries after a hectic 24 hours of activity.

The injury to experienced defender Gardiner is believed to be the biggest concern ahead of Mayo’s upcoming All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Kerry on Sunday. The Crossmolina star tore his hamstring during the side’s third-round defeat against county champions Ballintubber on Saturday evening.

Shrule/Glencorrib’s Mark Ronaldson was taken to hospital with suspected concussion during his side’s shock defeat away to Tourmakeady.

Aidan O’Shea, as well as being injured, was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. But, in better news for Horan, Conor Mortimer continued his comeback since tearing his cruciate ligament and kicked five points.
