Buffers Alley ease through

BUFFERS ALLEY had 11 points to spare over a disappointing Aksamore/Kilrush outfit in Saturday’s Wexford SHC clash at Wexford Park.

The winners led 1-4 to 0-1 by the 10th minute with the goal coming after Pat Kenny forced the ball over from close range. With Pat Doran superb from placed balls Buffers Alley led 1-10 to 0-7 at the interval with Frank Boggan keeping his side in touch. But the winners stepped on the gas after the restart with Doran, Tomas O’Leary and Bobby Kenny firing them to a 1-19 to 0-11 win.

The opening game of the doubleheader was somewhat of a relegation battle between St Anne’s and Glynn-Barntown.

The accuracy of Paul Carley helped steer Glynn-Barntown to a 1-17 to 1-12 victory after a Pierce White goal had helped St Anne’s to a 1-6 to 0-6 interval lead.

With Carley, who switched to wing-forward, sending over a series of excellent points, Glynn-Barntown hit the front (1-11 to 1-10) at the three-quarter stage and were never caught. Carley hit 10 points over the hour.

Two superb goals from inter-county minor Jack Guiney saw Rathnure secure a 3-17 to 0-10 win over last year’s beaten semi-finalists St. Martin’s at Wexford Park yesterday.

Dominant in midfield where Paul Codd was in control, two first half goals from Guiney helped his side to a 2-6 to 0-7 interval lead, with Paddy Kelly pointing four frees for the losers.

The second half was almost all one with traffic with Robbie Codd having the game’s third goal while St. Martin’s had to with wait until the 50th minute for their first score — a Kelly pointed free.

The opening game was a much closer affair with Faythe Harriers emerging with a 2-17 to 0-19 victory over HWH/Bunclody. The sides were level (2-5 to 0-11) at the interval with Rhys Clarke and Paul Lambert goaling.

The main marksman for the losers was minor star Aidan Nolan who finished the game with 10 points.
