O’Sullivan: Counihan will stay on

CORK county board chairman Jerry O’Sullivan expects senior football boss Conor Counihan to complete his two-year term in charge of the county side and remain at the helm for the 2012 season.

O’Sullivan: Counihan will stay on

In the wake of Cork’s exit last Sunday from the 2011 championship race at the quarter-final stage against Mayo, O’Sullivan does not anticipate the Aghada man to opt out of his role. Counihan, who first took charge of Cork in early 2008, was reappointed for a two-year term last October having steered his side to All-Ireland honours the month before.

“I’m sure that Conor will come back to have another crack off it”, stated O’Sullivan. “That is certainly what we’d be hoping in Cork. When he was reappointed at the end of last year he got a two-year term and there’s another year left on that yet. That two-year term would be the standard practice when we are appointing intercounty managers.
