‘One for all’ creed drives Kildare

THERE were approximately 10 minutes left in last Saturday’s round four qualifier between Kildare and Derry when someone in the press box turned to his colleagues and invited nominations for man of the match.

There isn’t usually a shortage of replies. The fourth estate is littered with people accustomed — and eager — to offer opinions but this particular bit of bait was left hanging untouched in the air far longer than is usual.

Jim McGuinness had been furious earlier in the summer when The Sunday Game named Ryan Bradley as man of the match after Donegal’s win over Antrim on the basis he was, in so many words, the best of an average lot.
