O’Loughlin considers his future

CLARE boss Ger O’Loughlin will have a “very serious think” about his managerial future following the county exit from the All-Ireland senior hurling championship last Saturday.

O’Loughlin’s side, defeated by Tipperary in Munster, were hammered by Galway in a Pearse Stadium All-Ireland Qualifier (4-25 to 0-20).

Despite their recent record, Banner County legend O’Loughlin remains hopeful for Clare hurling.

He admitted: “That was the last thing in my head going into the match. It would be unfair to have thought about that. But I’ll have a very serious think about it now. It’s like everything else, you give your heart and soul for the two years.

“When I went in, I knew after a couple of weeks we were starting off from a low base with regard to experienced players. I think we’ve made progress. Though the results are poor, we actually have a nucleus built now to go forward.

“We need an injection again now of five or six 18/19/20-year-olds in the next year or two. Clare will win something in the next maybe three years.”
