CORK boss Conor Counihan has backed Ciaran Sheehan to recover from the serious cruciate ligament injury he suffered in Sunday’s Munster football final which has brought his 2011 campaign to a halt.

Counihan backs Sheehan to recover

The 20-year-old was informed yesterday morning, after undergoing a scan in Dublin, that he had suffered the devastating injury with the cruciate and medial ligaments in his left knee torn in a second-half challenge in the Fitzgerald Stadium clash.

Sheehan will wear a brace on his knee for six weeks before undergoing surgery to repair the damage. The injury is a major blow to Cork’s attacking options after already losing fellow attacker Colm O’Neill with a torn cruciate.
