Durnin the scoring ace as Newry notch emphatic victories

DOWN side Newry Shamrocks got their Féile na nGael Division Two campaign off to a fine start as they won both of their Group C games at the Glen Field yesterday afternoon.

A tally of 1-4 from Shane Hanna was vital as Glanmire were beaten 1-10 to 1-1 in the opening game, while Newry powered on in the second match, beating Bishopstown by 7-7 to 0-2. Josh Durnin finished with 3-3 while Conor McKeon scored 1-1.

The outcome is not a foregone conclusion, however, as Portlaoise are still in contention, having played just one match yesterday, beating Bishopstown by 2-6 to 1-5.
