Conroy gives punters comfort
Mulholland Bookmakers, who employ Conroy and goalkeeper Adrian Faherty, vowed to refund all losing bets if Paul scored a goal or Faherty saved a penalty.
It cost the bookmaker, owned by county U21 boss Alan Mulholland, €10,000.
“He [Alan] was delighted to see Paul get on the scoresheet from a Galway point of view but disappointed to see Galway collapse from a winning position,” said Kevin Breslin from Mulholland Bookmakers.
“Mayo were 3/1 at half-time to win the match but Galway managed only a solitary point in the second half.”
Meanwhile a few lucky Carlow punters got a nice reward for travelling to support the hurlers in Casement Park.
Stopping on the way for a few beverages, a few Bagenalstown natives boasted of Craig Doyle’s ability. The pub owner offered them odds of 7/1 on the bet, which they duly took up with €100.
When Doyle netted in the second half, Casement Park erupted. His clubmates and friends from Erin’s Own were in the black.
