Umpire knocked to the ground in Tipperary divisional clash
The incident occurred in the latter stages of a Mid Tipperary SHC semi-final between Drom-Inch and JK Brackens at Templetuohy on Sunday night.
Ten minutes from time, a melee involving several players erupted in the centre of the field.
While referee Tommy Ryan dealt with this, another row broke out in the JK Brackens goal area.
The referee consulted with his umpires and red-carded goalkeeper Darren Russell.
As the referee returned to the centre of the field to restart the game an umpire at the Brackens end was knocked to the ground. Play was halted for five minutes before the umpire was able to resume his duties after receiving medical attention from first aid officials. The game finished without further incident.
Mid Tipperary chairman Mattie Ryan said the board will await the ref’s report before deciding what action to take.
Drom-Inch won 3-24 to 1-14.
