Second-half goals do trick for Nick’s

ST NICK’S were everyone's favourites to drop down a grade in the Cork SFC but they pulled off the great escape at Bandon last night, beating Dohenys 2-6 to 1-8, to deservedly maintain their senior status and at the same time stay in the title race.

Second-half goals do trick for Nick’s

The introduction of county senior hurling star Patrick Horgan at half time had a huge impact on the game for Nick’s. After Robert Brosnan reduced the deficit with a point from a free, Horgan threaded a great pass through the Dohenys defence in the 35th minute to the unmarked Graham Callanan who drilled the football home to give his side the lead for the first time and they proceeded to show the greater appetite to hold that advantage to the finish.

Dohenys showed commendable spirit in drawing level with a succession of points, but Nick’s weren't to be denied and a Barry O'Donovan goal in the 55th minute put daylight between the sides.
