McMahon back in action for Tyrone

JOE McMAHON will make his first appearance for the Tyrone senior footballers since suffering a broken jaw in a club game two months ago in Sunday’s Ulster SFC semi-final against Donegal at Clones.

Manager Mickey Harte has included him at full-back instead of Cathal McCarron in one of two changes from the team that defeated Monaghan at the quarter-final stage. Kevin Hughes, who missed the win over Monaghan through injury, returns to midfield, taking over from Aidan Cassidy, who has been ruled out by a damaged ankle.

Galway manager Tomás Ó’Flatharta has handed senior championship debuts to four of the All-Ireland U21 winning team for Sunday’s Connacht SFC semi-final clash with Mayo.

Colin Forde starts at full-back, Johnny Duane is named at left corner-back, Greg Higgins will play centre-back and Mark Hehir is selected at centre-forward. As anticipated, star forward Michael Meehan is not deemed fit enough to play.

Tipperary boss John Evans has rung the changes for Saturday’s All-Ireland qualifier against Laois, making four alterations from the team that lost to Kerry in the Munster championship.

Paul Fitzgerald comes into goal for Matthew O’Donnell while Stephen Hahessy starts instead of Conor Sweeney at left corner-forward. O’Donnell and Sweeney have both gone to the USA for the summer. Ciaran McGrath is introduced to the full-back line instead of Paddy Codd while John Cagney comes into attack with Seamus Grogan moving to midfield as Brian Jones makes way. Sean Carey is a notable inclusion amongst the substitutes having been released from the Tipperary hurling squad this week.

Wexford and Carlow have both announced unchanged teams for Sunday’s Leinster SFC semi-final in Croke Park.

Westmeath manager Pat Flanagan has reacted to their heavy Leinster championship defeat to Wexford by making four changes for tomorrow’s trip to Casement Park to face Antrim in the qualifiers. U21’s James Dolan and John Heslin are promoted to the starting fifteen, along with Micheal Curley and David Duffy. The players to make way are Francis Boyle, Paul Sharry, David Glennon and Paul Greville.

Down’s All-star attacker Danny Hughes has been ruled out of their qualifier tie against Clare tomorrow through injury while Benny Coulter and Conor Maginn continue to struggle with hamstring injuries.

Limerick have made one change for their Munster MHC semi-final against Waterford tomorrow night with Mark Carmody named at left half-forward with Mike Fitzgibbon moving to full-forward as Brendan O’Connor makes way.
