The Muskerry side had an imperious second-half display from Cork U21 star John Corkery to thank for their progress as he knocked over eight points.
Corkery was at the heart of all that was good about Aghabullogue’s play as he hassled and harried throughout the fixture and won numerous frees off his struggling opponents.
Centre-forward Pádraig Finnegan also impressed throughout while superb midfield displays came from Donal Cullinane and Niall Buckley.
Despite the deficit at the end, Ballyclough were well in the game up to half-time and only trailed 0-7 points to 0-6 at the interval .
Terrific first-half displays from centre-forward Paul O’Flynn and Barry McDermot were the highlights for Ballyclough who undoubtedly missed the cutting edge of Cork senior star Colm O’Neill.
The first-half was a scrappy affair with both sides making a meal of the art of passing. The sides traded scores regularly in that opening period with the scoreboard showing parity on six occasions.
The second period didn’t have the same equality scoring wise, however, as Aghabullogue raced into a six point lead as the game headed into the final quarter.
The final nail in Ballyclough’s challenge came 12 minutes from time when Finnegan converted a penalty for the victors to end the tie as a contest. Ballyclough did respond with points late on, but it was too little too late and they now head into the third round and their last chance of salvaging the season.
