Graham Mulcahy and Paul Browne are the only survivors from that Munster semi-final defeat while Nicky Quaid, who played in midfield last year, lines out in goal this weekend.
With the 2009 panel players available again after withdrawing their services in Justin McCarthy’s last year in charge, Donal O’Grady has reintroduced six of the team that lost the 2009 All-Ireland semi-final to Tipperary while Stephen Lucey was not considered due to injury.
O’Grady also gives championship debuts to Richie McCarthy, Sean Tobin and full-forward Kevin Downes.
Davy Fitzgerald has handed four players their first SHC starts, two in his full-back line in Darragh Fives and Wayne Hutchinson. In the forward line, Padraig O’Mahony and Brian O’Sullivan also get the nod.
Tony Browne, who turns 38 next month, will start his 20th championship campaign at right-half back.
Meanwhile, Henry Shefflin has been selected at full-forward for Kilkenny’s trip to Wexford Park tomorrow evening.
Tommy Walsh’s shoulder prevents him from starting but Michael Fennelly has recovered from a broken hand to start at midfield.
Galway’s footballers have been boosted by the return of Michael Meehan to training as they count down to their Connacht semi-final against Mayo on June 26.
Meehan is not expected to be fully fit for the game at MacHale Park but could yet be named among the subs.
