Senior stars should steer Dubs to semi
John McEvoy’s charges will build their challenge around senior stars Liam Rushe and Daire Plunkett who both featured for Anthony Daly’s side in their National League final victory last month and their Leinster senior championship win over Offaly.
Opponents Carlow, who are managed by former Waterford senior star Paul Flynn, can call on nine players from Kevin Ryan’s senior panel and eight members of last year’s U21 squad who ran Wexford close in the semi-final.
Cavan boss Val Andrews has handed out seven championship debuts for Sunday's Ulster SFC quarter-final against Donegal in Kingspan Breffni Park. In defence James McEnroe is named at right corner-back, Patrick Carroll is selected at full-back, Niall Murray will play at right half-back and Damien Reilly gets the nod at left half-back. In attack Gearoid McKiernan will start at right half-forward, Fergal Flanagan gets the nod at left half-forward and Niall McDermott is picked at right corner-forward. Murray, McKiernan and McDermott all featured on the Cavan U21 team that reached this year's All-Ireland final.
