Mone to miss opening game of the qualifiers

MONAGHAN defender Dessie Mone has been ruled out of his side’s opening game in the All-Ireland qualifiers as a result of his late dismissal in the two-points loss to Tyrone.

Mone received a straight red card in stoppage time and will have to sit out the Farney county’s next game on June 25.

Skipper Dick Clerkin, who was also sent off in the 1-13 to 1-11 defeat, will not have to serve a suspension. He was dismissed in the 30th minute after picking up a second yellow card in the space of 90 seconds.

Meanwhile, Tyrone’s Joe McMahon is expected to be back for the Ulster semi-final against either Donegal or Cavan.

McMahon suffered a broken jaw in a club game last month, but was on the bench at Omagh yesterday.
