CAVAN will not take part in senior hurling competitions for five years to concentrate on underage development — with or without Croke Park’s permission.

County chairman Tom Reilly pulled his side out of the Lory Meagher Cup after seven players turned up for training last week and said he would not waste money at that level when they only had 60 active hurlers in the county.

“Croke Park will likely wrap me on the knuckles for this but the reality is we can’t have teams in competitions for the sake of it,” he said.
