TIPPERARY chairman Barry O’Brien revealed yesterday that the county board has not abandoned ambitions to appoint John Evans as their Director of Football.

The Munster county was set to confirm the Kerry native and current senior football manager in the role last year until GAA Director General Páraic Duffy informed them that Evans could not perform both roles as salaried coaches and development officers are not permitted to supervise county teams.

However, Tipperary have again championed their business model, days after president Christy Cooney described under-the-counter payments to bosses as ‘a cancer running through the association’.
