Fermanagh chiefs to examine report into player impasse
Chiefs will discuss a report on clear-the-air talks held on Thursday night by the GAA and GPA between county committee members and a number of players who have quit John O’Neill’s panel.
Part of a joint GAA-GPA statement released yesterday read: “The meeting was held in accordance with the Disputes Resolution protocols as outlined in the recently announced Recognition Agreement. The meeting was most constructive and addressed a number of issues highlighted by both the players and the county officers present.”
Meanwhile, Dublin defender Peter Kelly has been cleared by the Central Hearing Committee (CHC) to play in tomorrow’s Allianz Division 1 top-of-the-table clash with Galway at Parnell Park. Kelly had been facing a month’s ban arising from an incident in the league game against Offaly which left their Shane Dooley in need of hospital treatment for an ear wound. However, in their verdict released yesterday, the CHC judged the Central Competitions Control Committee’s recommendation “should not have commenced under Riail 7.3 (f) (iii) (2)” of the GAA’s Official Code and “therefore no penalty was imposed” on the Lucan Sarsfields man.
Meath footballer Terry Scally lost his appeal against a proposed four-week suspension for his sending off against Donegal in their Division 2 game earlier this month.
Elsewhere, Limerick selector TJ Ryan is happy with how the players of the 2009 and 2010 panels have worked together. “Both sets of players gelled very well, there’s been no animosity whatsoever so from that point of view we’ve had no issues,” he told DCU radio. “We’ve had four games so far and we’ve won the four of them so [playing] in Division 2 has been good for building a bit of morale. At the start of the year we would have been behind the teams in the top flight, so maybe it suited us.”
Following an objection placed in relation to GAA Handball Congress proceeding this weekend a decision has now been made to postpone the Congress.
