Canty’s White House snub angers Cork
Tipperary’s All-Ireland-winning hurling captain Eoin Kelly was invited to the White House to meet Barack Obama along with footballer of the year Bernard Brogan but there was no invite for Canty.
Cork PRO Ger Lane said: “We don’t know what the criteria was but we can confirm that Graham was not invited. I suppose we’d be saying it should be like with like. If it was the captain of Tipperary it should be the captain of Cork too. If it was player of the year in hurling it should be player of the year in football.”
Meanwhile, Kerry duo Declan and Tom O’Sullivan could make their first appearance of the year in tomorrow’s NFL Division 1 clash against Galway at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.
In all there are three changes to the Kerry line-up from the side that lost to Dublin last time out. Newcomers Shane Enright and Brian McGuire, have been drafted into defence, while Kieran O’Leary has been named in the full-forward line. The trio replace the suspended Marc Ó Sé, as well as Padraig Reidy and David Geaney, who all drop to the bench.
Meanwhile, Limerick hurling is preparing for yet another row, only this time it’s off the field of play. A county board decision has ruled the appointment of a 10-man steering committee elected at the annual convention out of order, a decision that has angered hurling group chairman Owen O’Neill.
“Democracy no longer exists here in Limerick County Board and Croke Park for that matter,” he said.
There was also shock expressed at Offaly County Board’s March meeting when delegates learned the cost of running the senior teams for January reached a staggering €63,467.
