CONNACHT secretary John Prenty believes the GAA should consider scrapping their pre-season competitions to ensure county teams uphold the winter training ban.

Prenty, in his report to convention, expressed concern that inter-county players are not allowed a proper rest period — and has offered a solution.

He said: “One of the main complaints by managers is that players are not getting enough pre-season work done before the commencement of the subsidiary competitions and that this may add to an increase in injuries. If this is the main objection to the closed season then there is a very simple solution.
