Galvin set for Sigerson Cup return with Dublin IT

KERRY’s Paul Galvin could be ready for a return to Sigerson Cup action — at the ripe old age of 30!

The former footballer of the year has embarked on a new career direction by securing a place on Dublin Institute of Technology’s fashion diploma course. And now the college is investigating whether that qualifies him for the blue riband of third level colleges football.

The course begins at the end of this month but will not complicate Galvin’s Kerry commitments. Galvin is still recovering from hip/groin surgery and will miss out on the early stages of the national league and Sigerson Cup — if he’s eligible. Galvin has already represented UCC in the Sigerson, over a decade ago, from 1999 to 2002.

Meanwhile, Kerry coach Jack O’Connor has been boosted by the return of Tomás Ó Sé at centre back for tomorrow’s McGrath Cup clash with Limerick IT in Tralee. O Sé makes his return to the green and gold for the first time since last July’s Munster final win over Limerick. Darran O’Sullivan, who played at wing back last week against Tralee IT, leads the Kerry attack this weekend.

Elsewhere, a number of Cork’s holidaying All-Ireland winners will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s McGrath Cup clash with Limerick in Newcastlewest. The squad returned to Dublin yesterday from South Africa and the likes of Fiachra Lynch, Paul O’Flynn, Eoin Cotter, Ger Spillane and keeper Paddy O’Shea have been named in a provisional squad for the Limerick game.
