Clashmore back in top flight

AFTER being sensationally relegated from senior ranks twelve months ago, Clashmore returned to the top flight courtesy of this six-point victory over John Mitchels in the Waterford IFC final at Walsh Park yesterday.

Clashmore back in top flight

A superb Miceal Downey goal in the 22nd minute helped John Mitchels to a 1-4 to 0-4 half time lead, and while two rapid fire Brian O’Halloran points on the restart narrowed Clashmore’s deficit to the minimum, the losers were still in the driving seat, leading by 1-7 to 0-8, going into the decisive closing quarter.

However, Mitchels failed to add to their tally in those closing fifteen minutes when Clashmore assumed mastery across the field. They put their now beleaguered opponents under sustained pressure and the match-winning scores inevitably followed.
