O’Sullivan’s late point earns draw for Killorglin
A hat-trick of goals from Timmy Walsh in the 6th, 32nd, and 48thminutes along with strikes from Garry O’Sullivan and sub Deaven O’Flaherty had the Kerry side in pole position (5-4 to 1-11) in the final stages.
But Macroom showed tremendous battling qualities, with Robbie O’Dwyer a central figure in theirsensational comeback.
Ironically, the Cork side looked the better in the opening half and Peter Moynihan’s 16th minute goal helped them to a 1-6 to 1-4 interval lead. Walsh edged his side ahead with another goal but points from Ben Shorten and Cathal Vaughan kept the Cork outfit in touch. However the Kerry side’s second-half goal rush seemed to have put the game beyond Macroom.
But the Cork lads refused to wilt. A Shorten free, a goal from Pat Lucey and two Darren Creed points had them level by the hour mark. A long range Vaughan free edged Macroom ahead before O’Sullivan kept his nerve to equalise.
