THE Monaghan senior football squad last night slammed their county board for the treatment of Seamus McEnaney and unanimously backed calls for ‘Banty’ to be appointed for another three-year term.

McEnaney’s future has been placed under grave doubt after being told he would have to reapply for his job as manager when the Monaghan county board voted to seek nominations for the position at a meeting last Monday night. The players met on Wednesday night to convey their unhappiness.

In a statement released last night, the squad also expressed serious concerns over the recent actions of club delegates.

“The players unanimously back Seamus McEnaney to continue as Monaghan team manager. We were delighted when Seamus indicated that he was willing to continue as team manager, ” read the statement.
