Canty’s yellow expunged

IT’s probably cold comfort to him at this stage, but Cork skipper Graham Canty’s second yellow card in their galling Munster SFC semi-final defeat to Kerry has been overturned by Croke Park’s Central Hearings committee.

Canty’s yellow expunged

Canty was dismissed five minutes from the end of normal time after picking up a second booking for what Pat McEnaney believed was a foot trip on the Kingdom’s Colm Cooper. It’s a moot point whether Kerry would have forced extra time against 15 men, but Cork anger afterwards was such that Canty sought a hearing from the CHC. which held that the Bantry man did not ‘trip his opponent with the foot,’ as alleged. However they made no additional finding as to whether he committed any infraction in this instance – in other words, they disputed the precise details of the caution.

“The fixed penalty imposed of debarment from the remainder of the game, including any extra time, is erased from his record,” a GAA spokesperson confirmed last night.
