Munster Council opts for Sunday showdown

MUNSTER Council chiefs have opted to replay the senior football championship semi-final between Cork and Kerry on Sunday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh (3.30pm) to avoid a repeat of the crowd delays which marred the corresponding fixture last year.

Twelve months ago the counties met on a Saturday afternoon but officials were forced to delay the start of the game as thousands of fans were stuck in traffic en route to the clash which Cork subsequently won.

Munster Council PRO Jim Forbes last night revealed: “It (the replay) was on our fixture list for Saturday but we took into account what happened last year and have decided to play the game on Sunday.
