Blow for Harte as Tyrone trio face one-month bans
TYRONE have been hit with a suspension blow which has ruled three of their top players out of tomorrow’s NFL clash with Mayo.
Justin McMahon, Conor Gormley and Martin Penrose have all been handed proposed minimum one-month bans as a result of incidents during their opening league game against Derry a week ago.
The GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee used video evidence to review the incidents, and asked match referee Pat McEnaney to reconsider the action he took on the night.
Tyrone county secretary Dominic McCaughey confirmed that all three players are to contest the proposed suspensions, and have requested a hearing.
“The request would have been made that a hearing would take place in advance of Sunday,” said McCaughey.
He added: “The CCCC looked at the video of the match and they asked the referee to look at the video clips of three incidents, and asked him if he wanted to give a different opinion, and he has come back and suggested that he would have given them red cards for the various incidents.”
Derry’s Eoin Bradley also had a proposed one-month ban proposed as a result of the Celtic Park tie, which the Oak Leafers won. He has not been named in the team to face Dublin at Parnell Park tonight.
Fermanagh have made three changes to play Roscommon tonight in Division 3 from the side that lost to Offaly last weekend. In goal, Chris Breen replaces Ronan Gallagher, who along with Rory is unavailable due to club commitments with St Galls in the All-Ireland club semi-finals next weekend. Elsewhere, Niall Bogue will start at corner-back instead of the suspended Marty O’Brien, and Ryan Carson replaces Rory Gallagher.
Five-time All-star Eoin Kelly will captain the Tipperary senior hurlers for the 2010 season.
Killenaule’s Declan Fanning has been appointed vice-captain.
