Death of ex-Limerick star Fitzgerald
The Claughaun man starred for the Limerick hurlers during the 80’s, winning NHL medals as a centre-forward in 1984 and 1985.
Fitzgerald was also an accomplished footballer, scoring four points from play in the 1991 Munster SFC final when Limerick were narrowly defeated by Kerry, 0-23 to 3-12.
Fitzgerald’s performances were recognised with an All-Star football nomination at the end of that season. Fitzgerald also played Railway Cup hurling and football for Munster – winning an interprovincial hurling title in 1984.
Fitzgerald also enjoyed success with Claughaun, winning county senior titles in both codes in the 80’s.
