JOHN KIELY last night expressed surprise and disappointment at not being re-appointed as Waterford senior football manager.

Kiely, who helped mastermind the county’s first Munster SFC victory in 19 years against Clare in 2007, held the post for five years.

Ironically, 2009 was one of the most successful of his term, winning six competitive games between the McGrath Cup and the National Football League while the county narrowly missed out on promotion from NFL Division Four.
