Déise blow as injury rules McGrath out

WATERFORD’S SHC ambitions received a major blow yesterday with the news long-serving star Ken McGrath, pictured, will miss up to six weeks following a knee operation.

Déise blow as injury rules McGrath out

Co-captain with Stephen Molumphy, McGrath carried the injury into Sunday’s draw with Limerick which curtailed his movement and led to his withdrawal before the end. Having taken medical advice yesterday, the Mount Sion star will have an operation this week on the troublesome joint and is expected to be out until the end of July.

Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald may start 2007 Hurler of the Year Dan Shanahan in place of McGrath in the replay on Saturday (5pm), having brought Shanahan on in the drawn game.
