THE GAA has no intention of changing the current format of the National League competitions, which are organised on the basis that the first and second-placed teams in each group meet in the final.

Director General Páraic Duffy said yesterday he had no regrets about the decision to abandon semi-finals, explaining this had been agreed in the interest of clawing back time for club games.

He agreed it was unfortunate that in Division One of the hurling league, the finalists were known in advance of last Sunday’s concluding round of games.
