Meath stay top after defeat of Derry as Armagh go second

MEATH maintained their perfect record in Division 3A with a four points win away to Derry in Swatragh yesterday (1-17 to 1-13).

The hosts, who started the day on top of the table, trailed 0-10 to 0-5 at the break as the Royals were in rampant form.

Armagh are now in second place in the wake of a one point win over Kildare (1-13 to 1-12) with Andy Comerford’s men leading 1-7 to 1-5 at the break.

Though minus the inspirational Keith Higgins, Mayo had little difficulty defeating Wicklow in yesterday’s clash of the basement boys at Arklow (2-15 to 0-16). Adrian Freeman was star man for the Connacht outfit hitting 1-7 to give the westerners their first win of the campaign. The Garden County have yet to record a victory.

In Division 3B, London continued their good form with a 3-18 to 2-14 win against Louth in Dundalk which puts them top of the table.

Roscommon are in second spot courtesy of a 3-20 to 1-11 win over Donegal in Athleague. The hosts were five points clear at the break 1-8 to 0-6 before easily consolidating their advantage thereafter.

Tyrone edged out Longford in Omagh by a point (0-13 to 1-9). The Red Hands were the better side in the first half, a fact which was reflected in their double-scores, 0-8 to 0-4, interval lead.

In Division Four, Monaghan made it two wins from two starts with a narrow win over pointless Leitrim at Clones (0-13 to 0-12).

Cavan secured the first points of their campaign with Ashbourne clubman Adrian McManus scoring 1-11 as the hosts defeated South Down by 2-14 to 1-9 at Ballyconnell. A brace of well-taken goals by Fermanagh duo Karl Keogh and Andrew Breslin proved crucial as they notched a 2-11 to 0-15 win away to Sligo. Colin Herity scored 10 points from placed balls for the hosts.
