Offaly trio unavailable

NONE of the three people involved in the interim Offaly football management is interested in being considered for the position of manager for the year.

All three — Tom Coffey, Vinnie Claffey and Phil O’Reilly, members of the Leinster championship winning team of 1997 coached by Tommy Lyons — are otherwise committed and made this clear at the meeting of the County Board.

“The meeting sanctioned that we are a caretaker management package for this weekend,’’ Coffey explained. “We got a list of players who have been on the panel for the last five or six weeks and called them to a training session last night,’’ he commented.

“It’s a 100% caretaker job for this week only. We have been put on a committee to select a manager.

“I am committed to Rhode for this year and for how long after that I don’t know,” he added.
